The site of the entrance to the great cave of Arenaza was discovered in 1962, by members of the Bizkaia Caving Group, but its cave sanctuary was not found until eleven years later.
The site of the entrance
It was Pedro María Gorrochategui and his family who, in 1973, discovered firstly the deer chamber and a little later, in the same year, the wild bull collection. Recently, in 1998, D. Gárate, J. M. Jiménez and J. Ortiz discovered new figures in the aforementioned wild bull area, mainly including a feminine anthropomorph.
