The Basque Observatory of Culture is now a reality.
It was devised in the process of preparing the Basque Culture Plan, the strategic plan for Basque culture for the 2004-2015 period, in which the Basque Council of Culture and its Standing Inter-institutional Committee played the leading role. In this it became clear that there was a need to Establish a system of information and systematic monitoring of the situation and evelopment of culture in the Basque Autonomous Community and to produce strategic sectional plans and studies of the situation”. It has been the joint work of all three County Councils, all three capitals and Eudel which, canalized across the Basque Government Dept of Culture, has finished the project within the planned deadlines, and that has made it a priority and has provided it with significant resources.
